Computer Lab Support in Solukhumbu Schools
Computer lab establishment in community schools of Solukhumbu is one of the major projects implemented with the support of EduTech Nepal and Himalayan Trust New Zealand. HTN in partnership with EduTech Nepal and School Management Committees are implementing the computer lab installation programme in Solukhumbu district since 2018. HTN’s role is to coordinate with Solukhumbu schools, government organizations and supporting partners. Out of planned seven labs for 2022, four labs in Himalaya Basic School, Namche; Pema Chholing Monastery School, Rimijung; Kemgun Gumba Thanka Painting School, Lukla and Mahendrodaya Secondary School, Khotang were installed. The remaining labs in 3 schools – Sagarmatha Secondary School, Bung, Singha Kali Secondary School, Tingla and Mahendrodaya Secondary School, Salyan will be installed within August 2022. The number of computer labs established in Solukhumbu and Khotang school totalled 24 by the end of the fiscal year 2021/22. The newly set-up computer labs are equipped with branded Dell computers and latest version of teaching materials. Moreover, virtual learning tools have been installed to enhance the learning process in the absence of teachers. EduTech Nepal is providing computers and technical support to establish the labs whereas HTN facilitates to identify schools, transport computers to schools, monitoring the computer labs, and coordinates with local governments. HTN’s part of the funding is managed under the Quality Education Programme in Solukhumbu (QEPS) supported by Himalayan Trust New Zealand. The establishment of computer labs in monastery schools is a new initiation of Himalayan Trust and EduTech Nepal. Gaining education through technology is must for all schools of thoughts. Himalayan Trust feels proud to introduce computer based education even in the monastic schools. This support provides a new hope in achieving the monastery based education and indicates the socially inclusive education policy and practice of Himalayan Trust.
