HTN, in collaboration with Himalayan Trust New Zealand (HTNZ), the American Himalayan Foundation (AHF), and various other partners and donors immediately responded to the disaster by raising funds to support the Thame community, as well as the students and teachers of Thame School. HTN set-up an emergency clinic in a tent at Thameteng to provide immediate medical services to the flood victims and the local community. The clinic has since been relocated to a community building until a new permanent facility is to be built.
In a joint decision made by the community and local government, HTN supported the relocation of 46 students and 10 teachers to Khumjung Secondary School to ensure they could continue their education. The students are well settled at the Khumjung school and feel comfortable in the current setting. HTN also provided guidelines to assist teachers and the School Management Committee (SMC) in facilitating the teaching and learning process in this new environment.
On 29 August 2024, HTN handed over a cheque amounting to Rs. 3.5 million to Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality to provide financial relief to the households affected by the flood. Hostel necessities and supplies such as blankets, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, bath/face/pocket towels, bed sheets, pillows, pillow covers, thermal wears, jackets, tracksuits, woolen socks, beanies, school bags, shoes, kit bags, stationeries, additional reading books, and ECED materials were distributed to the teachers and students of Thame School. HTN will continue supporting by covering the cost of meals for the current academic session, which runs until April 2025.
