The Monju Community Hall Building was officially inaugurated and handed over to the local community on the 18th May 2019. Mrs Ingrid Versen and Mr. Manfred Haupl were invited for the inaugural programme, but both of them could not make it due to their busy schedule. According to the suggestions and request of Ingrid and Manfred, Rt. Honourable former Prime Minister and Patron of Himalayan Trust New Zealand Mrs. Helen Clark officially inaugurated the building on the 18th of May. The inaugural ceremony was attended by more than 100 participants from Nepal and New Zealand. Some of the distinguished guests included Dr. Mike Gill, Sarah Hillary, Dr. John Mackinon, Diane Mackinon, John Loof, Christ Carter (former education minister of New Zealand), Himalayan Trust members and staff, Himalayan Trust Nepal Chairperson Mr. Pasang Dawa Sherpa, CEO Dr. Mingma Norbu Sherpa, Joint Secretary Lhakpa Tenji Lama, staff members, deputy chairwoman of Khumbu PasangLhamu Rural Municipality, Local leaders, government officials and local community.

Mr. Pasang Dawa Sherpa officially handed over the key and certificate of the community hall to Mr. Furtemba Sherpa in presence of all distinguished guests. Appreciation letters were awarded to all the supporting donors, local contributors and contractors. Helen Clark as the chief guest of the programme said that she was delighted to be the chief guest on behalf of Sir Edmund Hillary Stiftung Germany and Himalayan Trust to inaugurate the Monju Community Hall Building during her first trek to the Everest region. She said that she felt proud to be the patron of Himalayan Trust and observe the projects of Sir Ed on the occasion of Sir Ed’s centenary. Helen also remarked how great humanitarian work that Ingrid and Manfred had done in the remote region of Nepal.

The Monju Community Hall construction project is supported by Sir Edmund Hillary Stiftung Germany, Hauser Exkursinon and The Greater Himalayas Foundation was delayed since the construction materials were stranded at Takshindu after the Manang Helicopter Company’s chopper crashed in 2017. A total of 9285 kilograms of construction material was airlifted by Shree Kailash Air helicopters in May 2018.
